In order to achieve my goal, the products I create must meet a set of specifications to determine its success. Here are the specifications:
1. The videos must be filmed using HD quality tools and contain appropriate content for the target audience
Why: It is especially important that the video is filmed using a professional camera, so that it can have a HD quality outcome because it will not only be aesthetically pleasing but my target audience who is of all ages will be able to receive the content provided by reliable sources and live demonstrations. The target audience is all ages as it is aimed at the IICS community this is important because it should be appealing to all making the duration of watching the video enjoyable and amusing.
How: I will make sure after using my D3200 Nikon HDSLR camera to film the footage and finalize the export with the resolution of 1080pHD as it is the highest and best resolution to achieve this specification while creating my product.
Test: In order to evaluate this specification, I do not need to create a survey to receive feedback. The objective of this particular specification is to insure the overall quantity of the video, to communicate the information and video footage at the best quality to be viewed that will enhance the understanding of the situation-taking place when showing the techniques of first aid.
2. The video should be appealing to the target audience (IICS community all ages)
Why: In order to communicate the information that is going to be delivered in the videos to my target audience which is the IICS community (All Ages), the videos need to be at a certain length in order to not lose the attention of my audience as it is for them to learn and take something away at the end of watching the videos. Thus, if the video is attractive, interactive then the audience will be able to stay concentrated and interested for longer.
How: It is known that the average human attention span (to be concentrated on one task without being distracted) is approximately 5 minutes. Ages between 2 to 3 have an attention span from 3 to 4 minutes. When children begin Kindergarten their attention span rises to 5 to 10 consecutive minutes. Ages between 6 and 8 have an attention span of 15 to 20 minutes when they are engaged in a single learning task and adolescents have “focused attention” for 22 to 35 minutes. As you can see the pattern is that the attention span grows as you grow older, this is why the time that I will be keeping my videos is going to be between 1 minute to 3 minutes and nothing longer. This is to catch the attention of the viewer at their most primal state of focused attention. Next, in order to make it more appealing I will not only be changing the different angles that the video is shot from but incorporating real life demonstration of the first aid technique that is taking place.
Test: I will make sure that the time duration of the video does not exceed 3 minutes. If there are videos that go past, I will make sure to make the best judgment in order to shorten and cut down areas that may not be as necessary. In order to fully test this I will be showing my video draft to 10 students (2 from each category) that fall into an upper primary student, MYP student and DP student category. I will then be receiving feedback from them regarding the aesthetic of the video itself and the duration since the questions asked will be specifically dealing with the areas. With the results if more than 80% of the audience, which is 8 people, respond positively then this specification will have been successful.
3. The video should be well structured
Why: It is important that the video is well structured which means the video tells a story with an introduction, body, and conclusion which gives an organized structure to the overall video.
How: I will be able to structure my video with transitions such as black outs in order to indicate that there is a separation. The introductions will mainly consist of a close up of me giving a description as to what the video will include. Then there will be either a wide shot or close up shot of the demonstration of the specific video area. The video will then conclude with a black out, fade out music and credentials which indicates that the video is over.
Test: I will be creating a survey on a survey making website which will allow me to create a questionnaire that does not include many questions but only on this specific issue. This survey will be sent out to 10 students (2 from each category) that fall into my target audience which is the whole of IICS, this means an upper primary student, MYP student, and a DP student. In order to find out if this specification is successful or not I will be looking into the statistical results of my surveys meaning that if I receive over 80% of positive feedback (meaning YES replies) (8 students) then this will mean that this specification has been successfully met in the product.
4. Upon the usage of my website positive action should take place
Why: It is really important that the communication of knowledge and learning that takes places has a continuity and not just for a certain period of time, because in the long run the goal is to have my website visited and videos watched by the sports department before tournaments, going on ceesa events, class trips or any travelling opportunity where the information will be necessary. This way the IICS community will be able to take the information provided and share it with their communities. In addition, This is where the specification of the quality of the video will come in place because it needs to be in such a format that it can be accessed from different types of computers with access to YouTube.
How: I will be speaking and emailing specific people in order to make sure that the completed video links are shared with the appropriate people, for example Mr. Perron who is the head of the sports department or class trip supervisors. I will have my website used in my workshop which will allow the students who are taking the workshop have time to explore the website.
Test: I will not be able to test the positive actions of this specification right away since you cannot injure oneself on purpose this is why the action that takes place will most likely be seen in the long run, this may mean not throughout the duration of personal project.
5. The lesson plans for students/teachers for teaching first aid include content and interactions in order to engage the audience.
Why: One of the key aspects of learning is through an interactive and engaging environment because you can keep the attention span of your audience for much longer.
How: I will ensure that there is a lot of content covered by creating an effective lesson plan.
Test: This will be tested by the feedback form that I will receive at the end of the workshop.
