Investigation Stage –Research
29 October 2014
I have found that the sources that I found had different values and limitations that I had not noticed before evaluating them separately. Initially I have come up with the most valid and up to date sources that will ensure the next step that I will be taking in order to move forward with my investigation stage, which is educating myself and making notes with pictures in order to gather information on first aid.
In order to further achieve my goal the following are guiding questions:
1. How will the First Aid Training I receive from the nurse be beneficial towards my goal?
2. What makes an effective video?
3. From what angle, camera position, zoom will the shots need to be filmed in order to present the most effective video?
4. How will the videos be used in the future?
5. Where will the videos be stored? Website? Shared on a file? Google Docs? Emailed?
6. To what audience will the video be most useful for?
7. How can I get people to care about First Aid?
8. How will I be able to attract people’s attention to be interested in the training?
9. Differentiate between which source of First Aid is useful if come across two different ways to preform one action -> look at date, validity etc...
10. When should I set up training sessions?
11. Would it be more beneficial for the IICS Staff?
12. Secondary students or Upper Primary Students?
13. Research what age level comprehends best at practicals?
14. Will my project be short term or long term?
15. Will I need to focus on the Hisar Campus as their clinic is not as developed?
16. How will I measure success?
17. How will I assess pre knowledge of students/or staff?
18. Which areas should I focus on specifically for first aid?
Research:
Being a first aider:
DOING YOUR BEST
It is very important to know that First Aid is not an exact science and is open to human error. Some conditions are inevitably fatal, so the casualty may not always respond the way you had hoped. Make sure that you do your best and your conscious will be free of any guilt.
Take into account your responsibilities as a First Aider:
- To assess a situation quickly and safely as possible and summon appropriate help
- To protect casualties and others at the scene from possible danger
- To identify as far as possible the injury or nature of the illness affecting a casualty
- To give each casualty early and appropriate treatment treating the most serious condition first
- To arrange for the casualty’s removal to hospital into the care of a doctor or to his home as necessary
- If medical aid is needed to remain with a casualty until further care is available
- To report your observations to those taking over care of the casualty and to give further assistance if required
- To prevent cross-infection between yourself and the casualty as far as possible
It is really important to be confident in yourself and what you are doing. Being in control both of your own reactions and of the problem is critical with the addition of acting calmly and logically, being gently but firm, and speaking to the casualty kindly but in a clear and purposeful way.
